Implantation

A dental implant is an artificial root that is implanted in the place of the lost tooth making the replacement of the tooth possible.  In most cases its material is pure, unalloyed titanium, which is entirely adoptable for the living organism. The criteria of performing an implantation are that the form and size of the jaw as as well as the gum covering the bone have to be able to incorporate implants and no other  illnesses (general or local) should interfere with healing. The insertation of implants is performed under local anesthesia. During this procedure after the proper preparation of the jawbone the dentist inserts the artificial root that heals under the protection of the gums. The healing period lasts about 3 months during which the bones coalesce thus the implant will be able to bear the load. After the recovery, the dentist inserts an abutment to support the implant to prepare the way for the replacement of the tooth. For the restoration of the implants oral hygiene is a significant factor. Implants are also used for orthodontric purposes. Implantology is one of the most developing area of dentistry.
